About the Asian Society of Ichthyologists (ASI)

The Asian Society of Ichthyologists was established at the Asian Fish Biodiversity Conference held at the Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang, Malaysia, on 11 February 2014, following discussions at previous meetings of ichthyologists interested in Asian fishes in Chiang Mai, Thailand, in January 2012, and at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei in January 2013. 

 

A second meeting of ASI was held at the Guilin University of Technology, in Guilin, China, on 21 August 2015.  All individuals who attended the meetings in Thailand, Brunei, and Malaysia are considered members of the society and will receive announcements about future meetings.  

 

The next meeting of ASI will be held at the Taipei Nangung Exhibition Center in Taiwan on 18-21 May 2016. 

 

The objectives of the Asian Society of Ichthyologists (ASI) are to:

 

A. Promote the understanding, appreciation, wise economic use, and conservation of fishes;

B. Promote and evaluate the development and advancement of all branches of ichthyology;

C. Gather and disseminate to Society members and the general public scientific, technical, and other information about fishes through publications, meetings, and other forms of communication; and

D. Encourage the teaching of ichthyology and other forms of biodiversity science in colleges and universities.
